INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY AND EDUCATION FOR ALL - MARCH 8,2012
On March 8, 2012 ASM celebrated International Women's Day. Over a three-week period the elementary students studied and created various work on women from all over the world. Teachers enjoyed dressing up as inspirational women and making presentations: elementary students were introduced to sports stars, cooks, religious figures, and environmental activists.
On March 7, ASM launched its International Women's Day ribbon drive. ASM had previously established a relationship with a local project Education For All www.efamorocco.org/. This project supports young girls from rural areas, allowing them to continue their education in the hope that they will one day attend university. By selling ribbons, ASM was able to donate 8,114dh to the project.
Maryk, Latifa, and Khadija were overwhelmed by the response from ASM and are very excited to continue working with the school in the future.
Education For All will be holding its annual Open Day on April 29. If you are interested in finding out more information about this event, please refer to the posted invite or email Erin Jenkins at ejenkins@asm.ac.maWe would like to thank the student, parent, and staff community at ASM for making this such a successful fundraiser. We could not have done it without your support!

ASM's 1st ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL DAY - FEBRUARY 7, 2012
On Tuesday, February 7, 2012 ASM held its first annual International Day. We welcomed the students, parents, and staff to attend this event and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The children came in wearing traditional dress and carrying their country’s flag with pride. There was definitely a buzz in the chilly morning air! It was great to see so many teachers and parents wearing their country’s national dress and colors with pride alongside the students.
The day started off with a great assembly on Citizenship led by Grade Two. It was followed with a fashion show, poetry recitals, songs in Arabic and English, as well as a French skit led by Grade 5. A couple of highlights were Miss Painter'e Mernegue Ensemble and our ASM Kid's Karate Show led by the instructor Mr. Ezzoubair.
Afterwards, students enjoyed a sampling of various foods from around the globe during our international feast. Parents spared no effort and the food was enjoyed by all. There was something for everyone: British scones, Palestinian falafel, Chinese spring rolls and Spanish tortilla to name only a few. This fabulous feast was led by the Grade 4 room parents along with the help and generosity of many families.
The International Day was a huge success. Positive feedback from the school community and most importantly the children was a plus. This event was a special day for the Elementary School to come together and celebrate our international backgrounds.
Thank you to all the students, parents, and staff that made this day so wonderful. We can't wait until the 2nd Annual International Day at ASM!
